The Learning Support Assistant reports to the Diverse Learning Leader and is supported by Catholic Schools Broken Bay Special Needs Team. The major responsibility for enabling the learning of students with identified special needs lies with the Class Teacher. Under the supervision and direction of the Diverse Learning Leader and class teacher, a Learning Support Assistant is responsible for: providing assistance in school routines; classroom activities; and the care and management of students with disabilities and behaviour disorders.

Covering an expansive geographical area which includes the Central Coast and Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore, Catholic Schools Broken Bay is a system serving 44 Catholic Schools with around 17,000 students from Kindergarten to Year 12.</p><p><br /></p><p>About the Role</p><p>The major role of the Learning Support Assistant is to support the class teacher in providing for the physical, intellectual, social, religious and emotional development of all the students in the class. Learning Support Assistants act as additional ‘helping hands’ in the school and classroom, as directed by the Diverse Learning Leader. Specific roles, tasks and responsibilities will be determined by the Diverse Learning Leader and will be dependent on the:</p><ul><li>specific individual need/s;</li><li>number of students requiring assistance;</li><li>types of programs operating within the class or school;</li><li>level and type of individual support required by a student or group of students for a particular activity at a particular time;</li><li>particular contextual and situation specific needs;</li><li>number of classes or the number of students with whom the Learning Support Assistant is involved or has been assigned;</li><li>specific goals, objectives and expected outcomes of an individual student’s program (the IEP);</li><li>objectives and expectations of key associated personnel involved such as parents/caregivers and service providers; </li><li>particular skills, areas of expertise and preferences of the teacher and Learning Support Assistant. </li></ul><p><br /></p><p>New position on COVID-19 vaccinations</p><p><br /></p><p>Given the current management of risks associated with COVID-19 in the community, and the gradual wind-back of some settings, CSBB has decided to no longer require all staff to be fully vaccinated, effective 19 September 2022.
