Oakhill College seeks an innovative and highly skilled TAS Workshop Assistant to join our team.

<p>Oakhill College is an Independent Catholic Secondary School conducted in the Lasallian tradition, with an enrolment of 2,000 students, boys Years 7 to 10, co-educational in Years 11 and 12. Oakhill College is located in Castle Hill, NSW, and offers a wide range of subject choices and extra-curricular activities. </p><p>Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for the following full-time permanent position. </p><p><b>TAS Workshop Assistant (Trade Qualified) </b></p><p><b>Permanent Full-Time Position </b></p><p><b>Commencing January 2023 </b></p><p>We seek to appoint an experienced Workshop Assistant to provide support to the Technological and Applied Studies (TAS) department by undertaking various non-teaching duties associated with the efficient and effective running of TAS classes. </p><p>The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge of, and experience in, the areas listed below: </p><p>The role is required to be performed predominantly during school term time only, 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday from 8.30am - 4.36pm.</p><p> </p><p><b>Key duties and responsibilities: </b></p><p>Prepare stock for school projects including cutting and sizing of materials / cutting timber into specified lengths; </p><p>The use of power tools and hand tools in a safe manner; </p><p>General maintenance of workshop machinery/tools (e.g. changing blades) and organisation of external servicing of machines; </p><p>Oversee ordering and delivery of materials upon approval from the Academic Head of TAS; </p><p>General ‘handyman’ jobs (i.e. shelving, fixing vices, creating signage, hanging pictures etc) within the TAS department; </p><p>Assisting teachers and students in practical lessons when required; </p><p>Assisting with supervision and instruction of senior students in TAS workshop when required; </p><p>Assistance in creating resources for other departments within the school as deemed necessary by the Academic Head of TAS and the Principal; </p><p>Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness of the workshops to ensure staff and students work in a safe and pleasant environment (e.g. sweeping off and oiling of machines, regular changing of sander belts); </p><p>Sharpening of hand tools and the ability to sharpen woodworking chisels and lathe tools to College standard; </p><p>Basic maintenance of machines including maintenance of dust extraction system (including vacuum bags and workshop ducted extractor system); </p><p>Keeping consumable items stocked; </p><p>Cataloguing and maintaining of all purchase records for TAS including MSDS documentation; </p><p>Undertake all WH&amp;S duties as required and possess an understanding of WHS requirements in a workshop environment (e.g. signage, compliance, hazardous substances register/Chemwatch, MSDS register); </p><p>Other duties and administrative tasks as directed by the Academic Head of TAS;</p><p> </p><p><b>The successful applicant will: </b></p><p>Hold a Trade qualification (preferred); </p><p>Have 3&#43; years trade experience. Working within a school environment is desirable but not essential; </p><p>Hold a driver’s licence; </p><p>A concern for the safety of students and other staff is of paramount importance; </p><p>Knowledge of relevant tools, machines and materials; </p><p>Knowledge of traditional and contemporary practices in design and technology; </p><p>Knowledge and experience in working with timber and metals; </p><p>Competency in working with machines such as drop saws, table saws, drill presses, disc sanders, belt sanders, scroll saws, handheld routers; </p><p>Ability to undertake simple repairs to equipment; </p><p>The ability to communicate effectively with staff and students in a professional manner; </p><p>Strengths in problem solving, multi-tasking, initiative taking, thinking and decision making; </p><p>Ability to impart knowledge and skills to support teaching staff; </p><p>Well-developed interpersonal skills; </p><p>Strong planning, organising and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritise; </p><p>The ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing situations; </p><p>Ability to work without supervision or general guidance; </p><p>Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Windows, Office; </p><p>A commitment to ongoing professional learning including remaining current with global best practice; </p><p>Demonstrate a clear understanding and commitment to the Mission of the Catholic School; </p><p>Be supportive of the Lasallian ethos of the College; </p><p>Be an innovative, and engaging team member; </p><p>Adhere to the Colleges Safeguarding Standards and Child Protection policies and procedures. </p><p>Oakhill College is committed to innovative high-quality teaching and learning and offers excellent facilities and resources.
