Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) comprises 38 Catholic schools with more than 20,000 students enrolled across the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions.

<p><b>Location:</b> Catholic Education Office, Wollongong</p><p>The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for one position commencing 27 January 2023 until 20 December 2024. This position will be based across&nbsp;the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions working closely with our schools in the Diocese.&nbsp;</p> <p>This role has been created to provide additional support to Catholic schools for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Working under the direction of the Professional Officer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education within the Directorate Services and in close collaboration with Principals, teachers, Aboriginal Education Assistants and other staff from the Catholic Education Office, the role will identify and implement innovative strategies that will lead to improved educational and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.</p> <p>Catholic Education Wollongong is committed to creating a just society where reconciliation between all peoples is given priority, and due respect and acknowledgment is especially given to our first peoples. An ongoing focus of the system of schools has been to make Catholic schools places that welcome and value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander life, history and culture, especially through building staff cultural competence and encouraging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student enrolment and family engagement.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities of this role includes:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Supporting schools in the development and implementation of Personalised Learning Plans for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.</li> <li>Supporting schools with the case management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students requiring additional support for their learning and wellbeing.</li> <li>Collaborating with Catholic Education Office personnel in School Improvement Services to support the learning and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.</li> <li>Engaging with a range of data to support intervention including AECD, Best Start, Literacy and Numeracy Progressions, NAPLAN, Behaviour and Attendance.</li> <li>Building the cultural competency of teaching and support staff to more effectively support the learning and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.</li> <li>Building the capacity of Aboriginal Education Assistants.</li> <li>Implementing system policies and initiatives related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education.</li> <li>Supporting all teachers to address the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Essential Criteria:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background.</li> <li>Be a qualified teacher with proven capacity as a leader of learning with a good understanding of quality differentiated classroom practice.</li> <li>Be supportive of the ethos of a Catholic school and be able to represent Catholic Education in the wider community.</li> <li>Have a good understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures in the NSW Syllabuses for the Australian Curriculum.</li> <li>Have skills in analysing and using data to support student learning and wellbeing.</li> <li>Be confident at working in both Primary and Secondary school settings.</li> <li>Have excellent communication skills and be capable of building effective professional networks.</li> <li>Have the ability to interact positively with students, families, staff and a range of service providers.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Salary/Conditions:</strong></p> <ul type="disc"> <li>The position is child-related work and requires the person to have NSW Working With Children Check and obtain their clearance for paid work with children.</li> <li>Aboriginality authorised (under Section 14 D of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977).</li> </ul> <p>WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE</p> <p>This role is classified as child related work and therefore a Working With Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment with CEDoW.</p> <p>APPLICATION PROCESS</p> <p>To discuss your application or for assistance in applying for this position please do not hesitate to contact Karan Taylor Professional Officer - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education on 02 42509034 or Anne Dal Santo on 02 42509032.</p> <p><em>The Catholic Education Office is an agency of the Catholic Church called to stewardship and service in support of the system of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong.
