West Island School is seeking a Teacher of Spanish across the age and ability range 11-18. You will also be able to teach a second language, ideally French, however, we will consider all applications. Starting January 2023, the position will be a full-time two-year contract, renewable by mutual consent.

<p><b>Job Description:</b></p><p>Spanish is a thriving subject within the school, including iGCSE groups and three IBDP groups spanning Ab Initio, Standard, and Higher levels. The popularity of the subject within the school is matched by the success of our students who attain high.</p><p>You will be teaching within a large faculty team of 12 committed linguists who teach Spanish, French, and Chinese. Our team of teachers is supported by four native-speaking educational assistants. Your timetable will be teaching mostly Spanish, across the full age and ability range, including IB Standard and Higher Level. Ideally, you will also be able to teach French to at least iGCSE.</p><p>Spanish is taught as part of the MYP framework for students between the ages of 11-14 using inquiry approaches and promoting conceptual understanding. At the beginning of Year 10, students commence their iGCSE studies and can choose to continue in their Spanish learning. Post 16 students select a language acquisition course as part of their IB Diploma and can choose either Ab Initio, Standard, or Higher level.</p><p>It is not essential to have prior experience with the IB curriculum framework, as full training will be given and you will enjoy learning from the wealth of experience provided by your faculty team. Applications are welcome from those with experience of equivalent post 16 programmes such as A level or Senior Secondary Curriculum. Your specialist knowledge of Spanish, ability to work with other members of a team, passion, and willingness to work collaboratively in developing teaching units is more critical.</p><p>All teachers at West Island School are tutors to a group of approximately 15 students within a particular year group and you should be able to demonstrate a commitment to the holistic development of young people through pastoral work. Finally, there are a range of extra-curricular events and activities to which every teacher is expected to contribute to. Many activities are based on the teacher’s own interests or in support of students who are leading activities.
