The UTS Faculty of Science are currently recruiting for a Lead Teacher to join the faculty on a part-time basis (fraction of time can be negotiated between 0.4 FTE/14 hours per week and 0.8 FTE/28 hours per week) for 3 years.

With a culturally diverse campus life and extensive international exchange and research programs, UTS prepares graduates for the workplaces of today and tomorrow.  </p><p><b>About the Role </b></p><p>The Faculty of Science are currently recruiting for a Lead Teacher to join the faculty on a part-time basis (fraction of time can be negotiated between 0.4 FTE/14 hours per week and 0.8 FTE/28 hours per week) for 3 years. The Faculty of Science is the fifth largest in terms of student enrolments and second largest in terms of research revenue of the eight faculties at UTS. It is also the second largest in terms of total academic and support staff. The Faculty’s organisational structure comprises two schools, two research institutes, nine research facilities, a Technical Services Unit and general Faculty administrative services. </p><p>The Lead teacher is responsible for leading and delivering the teaching activities within the Faculty of Science HSC Mentor Science program. This is a program that has two streams, one stream is to mentor, support, and develop teachers, particularly in low resource settings, to develop the skill sets to teach HSC Science Extension. The second stream is the development, evaluation and provision of (in partnership with science faculty members) workshops for students undertaking HSC Science extension and connection to Science mentors. </p><p>The Lead Teacher will be a qualified teacher with approval to teach Science. The appointed teacher will be responsible for face-to-face and when necessary, online engagement with students or teachers for workshops throughout the year. The appointee may retain some work and association with a high school and arrangements around the nature of the fractional appointment will be seriously considered to facilitate. </p><p><b>About you </b></p><p>The Lead Teacher will have experience in HSC Science Extension teaching, have had some exposure to or experience in academic research, and will be an important representative of UTS Science to foster and build relationships with the NSW High School Science communities. </p><p><b>As the ideal candidate, you will possess: </b></p><p>• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of partners, teachers, academic, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment </p><p>• Extensive knowledge of science curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs </p><p>• Knowledge of NSW Department of Education’s policies and guidelines regarding access and equity, curriculum and learning activities as well as health and safety </p><p>• An approval to teach as a Proficient teacher by NESA </p><p>• Demonstrated ability to lead the planning and delivery of teaching and learning programs to ensure a rich and engaging curriculum that address the strengths of a diverse range of students including gifted and talented students </p><p><b>Remuneration &amp; Benefits </b></p><p><b>Base Salary Range:</b> $124,237 to $130,152 pa (HEW 9) (pro-rata) </p><p>This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary. </p><p>UTS staff also benefit from a wide range of Employee Benefits include flexible work practices, child care centres, generous parental leave and salary packaging opportunities. </p><p>This position is part-time <b>(0.8 FTE/28 hours per week) </b>and the appointment will be made on a <b>fixed term basis for 3 years. </b></p><p><b>How to Apply</b></p><p>Only those applications submitted via the UTS online recruitment system will be accepted.  </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>
