New Britain Palm Oil Limited owns and runs an international school in Mosa, Kimbe, named New Britain International School (NBIS). The school currently has 130-150 students housed in 6 air-conditioned classrooms. NBIS also has an extensive library and computer access in each classroom for the children to work with. WithAustralian expatriate teachers working with Papua New Guinean National teachers and assistants, the Australian (NSW) syllabus is taught from Prep to Grade 6 (most expatriate children then either attend an IEA Secondary school in Kimbe or go on to boarding school overseas, with education assistance granted by NBPOL). The NBIS school year runs from January to December and consists of four ten-week terms. The children have the opportunity to take part in many sporting activities including swimming, netball, soccer, golf, squash and tennis. The students at the school come from many cultural backgrounds and when the school celebrates PNG's Independence in September each year, the children dress in their own traditional costumes making for a colourful, fun and educational day.
