The Director of Governance and Legal will work with a team of Directors and senior leaders to facilitate the innovation, partnership and holistic approach to contemporary education which is at the heart of our thriving Catholic communities across the Archdiocese of Sydney.<br> <br> Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director: Governance and Legal sits on the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and is responsible for acting as a strategic leader delivering key systemic initiatives, network accountability and the vision, mission and values of Sydney Catholic Schools. The function has responsibility for running the Legal, Child Safety and Governance teams.<br> <br> The successful candidate will have oversight of developing high-level strategic advice to the Executive Director. They will think strategically about the forces of disruption and innovation shaping our future and lead this change process through strong policy, compliance and governance frameworks.<br> <br><strong> About you</strong><br> <br> Sydney Catholic Schools is looking for an experienced leader with vision, energy and passion. Someone who can draw on their experience to lead the Governance and Legal team.<br> <br> The Director: Governance and Legal is required to lead work that includes but is not limited to:</p> <ul> <li>leading and effectively managing the directorate, ensuring all enterprise strategic priorities are met in governance, legal, and child safety</li> <li>developing, maintaining and role modelling a culture among staff that is open to change and supports continuous collaboration, respect and accountability</li> <li>leading the analysis of broader market trends, understanding key themes, changing expectations, and new opportunities in the regulatory framework pertaining to schools and the system</li> <li>engaging critical stakeholders in the management and execution of SCS' legal compliance framework</li> <li>developing and overseeing the implementation of SCS's overall strategic Corporate Compliance Framework</li> <li>overseeing the delivery and maintenance of effective governance frameworks for the Board and its subcommittees</li> <li>overseeing the design and review of policies, procedures and processes for effective operation at a school and system level</li> <li>oversight of provision of expert advice on complex regulatory compliance matters, including all aspects of compliance relating to schools that operate within NSW, to the Executive Director, Executive Team, SCS Board, and its committees</li> <li>overseeing the development and implementation of operational, managerial and financial strategies to facilitate sound corporate governance to support the Company Secretary in communicating and embedding them</li> <li>overseeing the organisation's liabilities and risks against its strategic priorities</li> <li>overseeing the timely and accurate preparation of the SCS annual report, leading on behalf of SCS to implement legislative changes</li> <li>oversight of provision of expert advice on all school-related law, including education, employment, commercial and family law, and overseeing the interaction of canon law within SCS</li> <li>overseeing legal risks across all areas of responsibility</li> <li>oversight of briefings to external counsel on a range of issues, recommendations of the Royal Commission and the management of SCS' participation in the National Redress Scheme</li> <li>oversight of up to date child protection legislation and relevant statewide practices and leading strategies that embed a child-safe culture.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Essential Criteria</strong><br> <br> To be considered for this role, you will have the following experience, skills and knowledge:</p> <ul> <li>postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline and a commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning</li> <li>legal or regulatory experience, preferably in audit and risk, education, academia, consulting, not-for-profit or similar environment</li> <li>demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, including strong influencing, negotiation and conflict resolution skills</li> <li>demonstrated knowledge, experience and passion for leading transformation on a large scale</li> <li>demonstrated ability and willingness to challenge existing processes and structures and explore contemporary ways of working</li> <li>demonstrated exceptional communication, interpersonal and relational skills to work collaboratively as part of an executive team and influence a diverse range of internal stakeholders</li> <li>demonstrated solid and highly competent experience in managing legal matters and child protection investigations</li> <li>evidenced strong, up-to-date knowledge of educational law and child protection</li> <li>willingness to respect, support and uphold the mission, ethos and teachings of the Catholic Church and the values of Sydney Catholic Schools</li> <li>demonstrated ability to represent the mission of the Catholic Church through your personal and professional conduct</li> <li>a Baptised Catholic with demonstrated evidence of ongoing commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church and engagement in the life of a Catholic faith community such as a parish or an established community within the Catholic Church, as an expression of their relationship with Jesus Christ.</li> </ul> <p>Sydney Catholic Schools offers a generous salary package for senior leadership positions commensurate with the experience and skills of the appropriate candidate.<br> <br> <strong>APPLICATION PROCESS</strong><br> <br> Submit your application by clicking <a href="https://cgprod.phris.org.au/psp/CGPRD/EMPLOYEE/HRMS/c/HRS_HRAM_FL.HRS_CG_SEARCH_FL.GBL?Page=HRS_APP_JBPST_FL&amp;Action=U&amp;FOCUS=Applicant&amp;SiteId=2&amp;JobOpeningId=2244&amp;PostingSeq=1">HERE</a> and following the steps to complete your application.
