St Francis Xavier College is seeking a part-time temporary Pastoral Care Worker for 14 hours per week to the end of 2022. The Pastoral Care Worker is responsible for the pastoral care and spiritual wellbeing of the students and staff. St Francis Xavier's College, Hamilton, is a comprehensive, co-educational senior college catering to vibrant young adults across Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6). Committed to creating a contemporary space that caters to the diversity of its students, teachers are focused on offering a holistic approach to education acknowledging the mind, body and spirit of students and the importance of each in their development of personal and social responsibility. The teaching community at St Francis Xavier’s College upholds the responsibility of shaping and encouraging young minds through a shared vision of high quality education, hands-on experiences and fruitful learning for all students. Each member of the teaching staff brings with them skills and expertise in their delivery of the Stage 6 curriculum and the requirements of the Higher School Certificate, while also modelling faith in action by nurturing positive relationships between one another. <p> A Pastoral Care Worker is an individual who: i) Is recognised by the school community and appropriate governing body for the school as having skills and experience to deliver school chaplaincy to the school community ii) Is recognised through formal ordination, commissioning, recognised religious qualifications or endorsement by a recognised or accepted religious institution (Diocese of Maitland Newcastle); and iii) Meets the NSCP’s minimum qualification requirements A Pastoral Care Worker (PCW) is an individual who: i. is recognised by the school community and appropriate governing body for the school as having skills and experience to deliver pastoral care services and strategies that support the wellbeing of the broader school community ii. as defined in the Project Agreement with the Commonwealth Government, looks after the personal needs of students, not just their academic needs, through the provision of general spiritual and personal advice; and iii. meets the NSCP’s minimum qualification requirements a) A certificate 1V in Youth Work; or b) A certificate 1V in Pastoral care; or c) A Certificate 1V in Chaplaincy and Pastoral Care; or d) An equivalent qualification (eg teacher or psychologist); and this Certificate or equivalent qualification must include competencies in ‘mental health’ and ‘making appropriate referrals’ iv. is a practising Catholic within the context of Maitland Newcastle Diocese, who affirms the Catholic culture, identity and mission of the school and provides pastoral care through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching v. must undertake professional learning in responding to and preventing bullying and cyberbullying training with the Office of the eSafety Commissioner. vi. The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has an abiding commitment to promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults - particularly those who participate in the life of the Diocese. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check and, where legislated, hold a Working with Children Check.
