Education is central to that goal. </p><p>Children in Out-of-Home Care are a high priority client group of MacKillop Education, as are adolescents at risk of leaving school without vocational skills. MacKillop Education currently provides education support to these young people through outreach programs from four sites: Geelong, Maidstone, Warrnambool and Caulfield. We also offer education support in the West of Melbourne through our AccessEd program which supports young people in Residential care and our Thrive Program that supports young people in foster care. </p><p>Our schools in Geelong (Foundation to VCAL), Maidstone (Years 3 to 6), and Caulfield (Foundation to Year 10) cater for students who are disengaged, or at risk of disengaging, from education. The education programs provide flexible learning pathways and they equip participants with the skills they need to re-enter mainstream school, or, for senior students, to take up employment or further education options, including traineeships and apprenticeships. </p><p>The XTend Program in Geelong caters for young people aged 12 to 17 years, who are engaged with mental health services and/or child protection. </p><p>This position is part of the MacKillop Education Programs Team and reports to the Education Programs Coordinator.</p><p><br /></p><p> </p><p><b>Primary objectives: </b></p><p>• To improve learning outcomes for children and young people who are living in residential care or who are living in out-of-home based care (on statutory orders) </p><p>• To foster a collaborative approach to the development, implementation and monitoring of education plans with the other members of a young person’s Care Team and to advocate for the academic, social and emotional learning needs of the students. </p><p><b><br /></b></p><p><b>Key selection criteria: </b></p><p>To be successful in this role, you will have: </p><p>• Appropriate experience and qualifications in education (e.g. Certificate IV in Education Support; Tertiary qualification as a Teacher with current VIT or other relevant qualification) </p><p>• Experience working with children and young people who are disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education </p><p>• A sound understanding of how trauma impacts on learning </p><p>• Experience in developing, implementing, and reviewing individual education plans </p><p>• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written </p><p>• Excellent interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively within a team (e.g. colleagues, professionals and other stakeholders) </p><p>• Ability to work independently, to take initiative and a capacity for effective decision-making </p><p>• A demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks, plan workloads and work to deadlines. </p><p><b>For a full listing please review Position Description. </b></p><p><b><br /></b></p><p><b>You must have a: </b></p><p>• Valid and current Driver’s Licence; </p><p>• Satisfactory Criminal History Check; </p><p>• Valid Working with Children Check; </p><p>• Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check </p><p>The Australian Government recently introduced the NDIS Worker Screening Check, an additional, national legislated compliance requirement to determine if a person is cleared to work with people with disability. MacKillop requires all client facing staff obtain the NDIS Worker Screening Check.
