St Joseph's College, Lochinvar is seeking a temporary full time Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Island (ATSI) Teacher to join the school community in 2022 for Terms 1, 2 and 8 weeks of Term 3. This position is available due to the incumbent taking parental leave. St Joseph’s College, founded by the Sisters of St Joseph in 1883 is a co-educational secondary school providing a rich and diverse educational experience for 940 students from Years 7 to 12. The College aspires to be a place of learning where students, staff and families are valued and respected for their uniqueness. Located in the stunning Hunter Valley, St Joseph’s has a blend of heritage and modern buildings which include a Chapel &amp; Heritage Centre, new Administration and Resource Centre, a purpose-built hall and associated Café &amp; Hospitality Centre, well equipped, modern Technology/Trade Centre as well as refurbished Performance and Creative Arts spaces. <p> The Aboriginal Education Teacher has an important role in supporting Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students to access Curriculum, and support the well-being of students. The Aboriginal Education Teacher also has a role in mentoring of students, liaising with families and the broader Aboriginal Community, promoting Cultural awareness and responsiveness within the College and coordinating significant events such as NAIDOC Week. The purpose of the AET role is to focus on support for students and school communities in the areas of curriculum, literacy, understanding and appreciation of culture, and student well-being and pastoral care. Seeking support from and liaising with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives within the school will be essential to the realisation of these objectives. The AET will also be specifically involved with the formation and implementation of ‘Personal Learning Plans’ (PLP’s) for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students targeted at improving educational outcomes and supporting educational pathways, both within and beyond the school setting. The Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle has an abiding commitment to promote the safety, welfare and wellbeing of children and vulnerable adults - particularly those who participate in the life of the Diocese. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check and, where legislated, hold a Working with Children Check. Diocesan workers are expected to personally adopt and enact the Diocese’s Safeguarding Commitment Statement. </p> <h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <p> • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively support the Catholic ethos and culture of the school; <br>• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes; <br>• Commitment to fostering regular school attendance of Aboriginal students through providing appropriate support to the students and their families <br>• Understanding of the NSW Curriculum Cross Curriculum priority - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures and the capacity to work with Leaders of Learning to develop an understanding of and strategies to address this area <br>• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community in order to establish productive partnerships and achieve educational outcomes; <br>• Ability to demonstrate an innovative and agile mindset that supports and enhances a culture of continuous improvement within the school environment; <br>• Evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills; <br>• ability to work as a member of a team <br>• sound interpersonal, organisational and communication skills <br>• Qualifications and/or experience (see below) relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education This is inclusive of being able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contemporary educational issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people; The applicant must provide evidence of the following: <br>• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher; <br>• Current NESA Accreditation; <br>• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC) number; <br>• Proof of COVID 19 vaccination status <br>• Completion of Anaphylaxis training. </p> <h3>Desirable Criteria:</h3> <p> • Experience teaching Years 7-12 <br>• Though not essential, being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under section 14 (d) of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act, 1977.
