CONTEXT</b><br /></div><div>Established in 2001 in a picturesque setting in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, Pacific Lutheran College is a leading K-12 learning community that is innovative, dynamic and progressive. Firmly underpinned by the values and traditions of excellence of Lutheran Education in Australia, students have achieved outstanding success in the academic, sporting and cultural dimensions of their lives. Enrichment programs in all three areas have enabled students to explore their potential. </div><div>Pacific has established a strong academic culture, which promotes thinking, deep understandings and creativity based on the learnings of Harvard’s Teaching for Understanding and Visible Thinking frameworks. The synergy of these programs with the research of positive psychology and Lutheran theology provides for a rich whole of life learning culture. </div><div>Unique experiences provided through the College’s excellent outdoor education, pastoral care and personal development programs, and the opportunities provided through academic, sporting and cultural learning, support an enriching whole of life education. Active involvement in local and international community service projects broaden young people’s world view and sense of efficacy. </div><div>Our staff take advantage of flexibility in physical and virtual spaces to support an increasingly personalised approach to learning for our young people. Pacific has a seamless curriculum across Kindergarten to Year 12 with teams of teachers working across the four subgroups of the College. Staff are expected to learn collaboratively to contribute to a whole school approach as they lead learning in the Foundation College (Kindergarten – Year 2), Junior College (Years 3-5), Middle College (Years 6-9) and Senior College (Years 10-12). </div><div>Salary and related conditions are as per the Teachers’ (Non-Government Schools) Award in conjunction with the Lutheran Schools’ Enterprise Agreement 2020.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>2.  ROLE DESCRIPTION </b></div><div>The Head of Learning Middle College leads academic learning across the middle years. Together with the Director of Learning, the Head of Learning Senior College, Head of Learning K-5 and other curriculum leaders in the College, the Head of Learning Middle College shares responsibility for the pedagogical professional development of teachers and the development of a cohesive vision for academic learning across K-12. The Head of Learning Middle College oversees the design and enactment of a contemporary academic curriculum in the Middle College that provides opportunity for a diversity of learner to develop their God given talents to enrich and thrive in a rapidly changing world. </div><div>The Head of Learning Middle College in conjunction with the Principal, the Director of Learning, Director of Staff, Director of Students, the Head of Learning Senior College, Head of Learning K-5, Heads of Staff and Students, the Business Manager and College Pastor form the Administration and Learning Executive (ALE). As leaders of a Lutheran school all ALE members, other than the Business Manager, will be expected to work towards or possess leadership accreditation status within Lutheran schools. </div><div>It is expected that all ALE members foster a whole of school approach to learning consistent with the College’s Four Pillars of Learning to Be, Learning Together, Learning to Learn, and Learning to Know and Do. The Head of Learning Middle College is directly responsible to the Director of Learning and the Principal. </div><div>As the College continues to grow the roles and responsibilities of the members of the leadership team may be redefined through negotiation.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div> </div><div><b>2.1 Strengthening Lutheran Identity </b></div><div>As a leader within a Christian school the Head of Learning Middle College is expected to: </div><div>2.1.1 support and contribute to the growth of a strong Christian faith community through personal example and professional leadership. This includes participation in chapels, staff devotions and retreats. </div><div>2.1.2 ensure that Christian Studies is an essential part of the curriculum in the Middle College. </div><div>2.1.3 support the Lutheran ethos of the College.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>2.2 Enhancing Excellence in Teaching and Learning </b></div><div>As the key leader of academic learning in the Middle College, the Head of Learning Middle College is expected to work with the Director of Learning and the Head of Learning Senior College and Head of Learning K-5 to lead the teaching and learning in the college to: </div><div>2.2.1 place learning at the centre of strategic planning to ensure that there is a diverse and flexible curriculum that is supported by creative, responsive approaches to teaching and learning together with an effective learning environment that aims to optimise student learning. </div><div>2.2.2 enhance the student ownership and directing of their learning, ensuring that there is student voice in the direction, review and enhancement of student learning outcomes </div><div>2.2.3 lead the pedagogical development of staff in conjunction with the Director of Learning and the Heads of Learning and other curriculum leaders across the College. This includes the enhancement of capacity to use formative and summative assessment in the personalisation of learning. </div><div>2.2.4 use and equip teachers to use formal and informal data to monitor and plan for effective teaching and learning across the College. This includes the use of external data generated by the QCAA Senior Assessment practices and Naplan and the use of data longitudinally to track and enhance the learning outcomes of individual students and cohorts. </div><div>2.2.5 foster an encouraging and challenging learning environment that focuses on the development of the whole person across the College’s Four Pillars of Learning. </div><div>2.2.6 lead the growth of a culture of thinking that places high value on academic learning. </div><div>2.2.7 ensure that the College meets all QCAA and Lutheran Education curriculum requirements as they pertain to the Middle College. </div><div>2.2.8 model, as a classroom teacher, high levels of pedagogical expertise, collaboration and teamwork in the enhancement of student outcomes and actively support the wellbeing initiatives of the College. </div><div>2.2.9 actively support the co-curricular program of the College.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div> </div><div><b>2.3 Engage in Ongoing Improvement and Innovation </b></div><div>As a member of the academic learning leadership team in the College, the Head of Learning Middle College is expected to: </div><div>2.3.1 engage in ongoing learning and development and model engagement in ongoing growth in the academic, spiritual and wellbeing dimensions in line with the College’s goals and priorities. Be engaged with latest research associated with effective teaching and learning. </div><div>2.3.2 enhance an effective culture of professional learning in the area of teaching and learning that is in alignment with the College’s teaching and learning framework and goals. This would include the provision of professional development and coaching of curriculum leaders and the support of teacher engagement in reflection, collaborative planning, monitoring and review. </div><div>2.3.3 produce and implement clear, evidence-based improvement plans for the development of the Middle College curriculum and enhancement of student learning outcomes. </div><div>2.3.4 ensure the vision and strategic plan for teaching and learning in the Middle College has a focus on the improvement of student learning outcomes and wellbeing and that its goals and intentions are aligned with whole school goals. Support reflection and action to refine and achieve improved outcomes.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>2.4 Community Building </b></div><div>The Head of Learning Middle College is expected to enhance community through: </div><div>2.4.1 developing and maintaining positive partnerships and collaboration with College Council, Lutheran Education Australia and Queensland, Independent Schools Queensland, the QCAA, students, parents, carers and the wider community. This would include links and partnerships with other learning agencies including TAFE, universities and professional education networks. </div><div>2.4.2 promoting and valuing the College as a rich and effective learning community within the College and in the broader community. </div><div>2.4.3 professionally enhancing, encouraging and supporting the leadership of other members of Administration and Learning Executive, staff, students and parents to enhance student learning outcomes and wellbeing.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>2.5 Leading Effective Organisation and Management </b></div><div>The Head of Learning Middle College is expected to enhance the effective organisation and management of the College through: </div><div>2.5.1 modelling effective leadership and be committed to ongoing professional development and personal health and wellbeing in order to manage the complexity of the role and the range of learning capabilities and actions required of the role. </div><div>2.5.2 developing curriculum related policies, monitoring implementation and ensuring compliance with QCAA, LEA and LEQ policies and procedures and government legislation as they pertain to the Middle College. Ensure that curriculum related statements in staff, student and parent handbooks and on the website are reviewed and updated annually. </div><div>2.5.3 consulting with the Director of Learning and Head of Learning K-5 to assist in the allocation of teaching staff to Middle College classes. </div><div>2.5.4 in conjunction with the Director of Students, host transition tours for families and students joining the Middle College. </div><div>2.5.5 working in conjunction with the Director of Learning to lead the College’s Curriculum committee to promote effective leadership that enhances student learning outcomes and pedagogical development. </div><div>2.5.6 presenting the curriculum vision for the Middle College Information and Orientation evenings. </div><div>2.5.7 overseeing in conjunction with the Director of Learning, the Middle College’s reporting and assessment procedures. This includes ensuring that the assessment calendar is monitored and balanced in terms of demand on staff and students. </div><div>2.5.8 implementing strategies to cater for student remediation or extension together with the Principal, the Director of Learning and the Head of Learning Enrichment. This will include the development of related policies. </div><div>2.5.9 contributing to budgeting and master planning decisions as they pertain to teaching and learning. This includes the annual review and development of the teaching and learning development plan in collaboration with other teaching and learning leaders. </div><div>2.5.10 as a member of the Administration and Learning Executive actively contribute to decision-making and reflection from a whole school mindset. </div><div>2.5.11 be responsible for own health and safety and for the health and safety of persons around them. Comply with all statutory health and safety rules applying to the position.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>3 WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY </b></div><div>Specific duties include: </div><div>3.1 Setting the example for all employees to follow and implement the concepts of workplace health and safety. </div><div>3.2 Discussing the safety aspects of all operations with their employees and ensuring that employees understand that health and safety is important to themselves and to the College. </div><div>3.3 Ensuring that safety is included in all employees’ induction and job training sessions and ensuring that no employee is required to undertake a task without adequate safety instructions and job specific training. </div><div>3.4 Ensure that managers under their delegation are aware of their workplace health and safety responsibilities and follow procedures that are established for health and safety e.g. excursions procedure. </div><div>3.5 Responding to all employee safety suggestions and taking appropriate action to correct any sub-standard conditions, or reporting to the Principal items beyond their authority to remedy. </div><div>3.6 Ensuring that all employees under their control are aware of first aid kit locations, fire protection facilities, evacuation procedures and other emergency procedures and to train or arrange training of others in these skills. </div><div>3.7 Ensuring the highest possible standard of housekeeping is maintained throughout their area of control. </div><div>3.8 Apply disciplinary practice when employees or students fail to discharge their health and safety requirements.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div> </div><div><b>4. Selection Criteria </b></div><div>As a senior leadership role that will require ongoing learning and growth, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate or have the demonstrated capacity to develop the capabilities described below. The successful applicant will demonstrate that they: </div><div>SC1. have the capacity to enhance the Lutheran identity of the college through supporting and contributing to the growth of a strong Christian faith community through personal example and professional leadership. </div><div>SC2. have a high level of knowledge of contemporary curriculum and pedagogical practices across Year 6 to Year 9 that support the attainment of optimal student learning outcomes and the enhancement of a culture of thinking across the college. </div><div>SC3. have demonstrated skills of leading the professional development of staff through formal and informal strategies. This includes an understanding of the AITSL standards and having the capacity to engage in effective coaching conversations. A high level of pedagogical expertise in the classroom context will be expected. An understanding of adult learning will be an advantage. </div><div>SC4. have demonstrated skills to plan and implement evidence-based improvement strategies including the ongoing shaping and reviewing of the vision for effective teaching and learning within the College. </div><div>SC5. have highly developed interpersonal capacities that enable effective leadership including the ability to collaborate with other leaders within the College to plan and implement a P-12 approach to teaching and learning and support the formation and implementation of other P-12 goals and priorities. Personal capacities to effectively lead staff including the ability to enhance staff wellbeing, effectively use change management strategies, and engage in collaborative reflection, learning and action. Demonstrated qualities of confidence, flexibility, teamwork, resilience, innovation and perseverance to grow the capacity of an effective learning community will also be expected. This will include a personal commitment to lifelong learning and growth. </div><div>SC6. Demonstrated skills to support the co-curricular program of the College.</div><div><br /></div><div> </div><div><b>5. CONDITIONS </b></div><div> Salary and related conditions are as per the Teachers (Non-Government Schools) Award in conjunction with the Lutheran Schools Enterprise Agreement 2020.
