<p>The Science Laboratory Assistant works closely with the Science Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of the Science Faculty. </p><p><b>Applications are invited for a suitably qualified Science Laboratory Assistant. </b></p><p><b>This is a permanent, full-time position commencing January 2022.</b></p><p><b><br /></b></p><p><b>Duties Include: </b></p><ul><li>Prepare and maintain accurate laboratory records in accordance with file maintenance procedures</li><li>Maintain regular communication with Science department and Work Health and Safety Officer to maintain laboratory compliance</li><li>Preparation and clean-up of equipment used by teachers in practical classes</li><li>Preparation and clean-up of dilute solutions e.g. acids from concentrated bulk solutions, solutions from powers/solids</li><li>Prepare, maintain (includes ordering of required stock), organise, set-up and dismantle equipment and materials for routine experiments or student projects and dispose of waste materials as appropriate </li><li>Preparation and labelling of chemicals according to current protocols, including currency of MSDS</li><li>Ensuring adherence of the laboratory to safety and chemical legislative requirements</li><li>Provide effective assistance and practical support to Science Department Teaching staff, when required </li><li>Work closely with other laboratory assistants and academic teachers etc. to regularly review processes </li><li>Other duties as reasonably directed</li></ul><p><b><br /></b></p><p>Applicants should address the following essential criteria, desirable criteria and general capabilities in a cover letter addressed to the Principal. <br /></p><p><b>Essential Criteria:</b><br /></p><ul><li>Demonstrable support and commitment to the mission, values and ethos of Catholic Education</li><li>Passion to work with the young people of the Good Samaritan community<br /></li></ul><p><b>Desirable Criteria: </b><br /></p><ul><li>Experience working in a laboratory and appropriate qualifications</li><li>Current First Aid Certificate </li><li>Experience using Compass</li></ul><p><b> </b></p><p><b> </b><b>The following <u>General Capabilities</u> are applicable to the role: </b></p><ul><li>Proficiency in RiskAssess risk management application</li><li>Proficiency in MS office and Google suite of applications</li><li>Well-developed interpersonal skills</li><li> Well-developed oral and written communication skills</li><li> Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment</li><li> Strong organisational skills</li><li>Child Protection legislation requires the applicant have a current Working With Children Clearance.</li></ul><p><br /></p><p>To be employed in a Sydney Catholic School, all applicants must first obtain classification and accreditation through the application process.<br /></p><p>This process includes the submission of relevant documents to Sydney Catholic Schools for verification.</p><p> </p>
