The Catholic Schools Office is seeking a temporary full time Virtual Academy Coordinator to join the team from Term 2, 2021 until the end of Term 1, 2022. This position is a temporary position or secondment for a teacher who holds a substantive position within a school in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The Catholic Schools Office (CSO) is responsible for the leadership, operation and management of systemic schools that educate more than 19,000 students in 46 Primary schools, 12 Secondary schools and one K–12 school in the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The Virtual Academy provides innovative and advanced curricula with local, national and global perspectives, which are beyond the scope of the regular classroom. The Virtual Academy teachers work with a group of students identified as highly/profoundly gifted (primarily stages 3 and 4) to learn with autonomy and to engage with intellectual peers and expert mentors. On site visits to students enrolled in the academy may be on a regular basis so a car and licence will be required

<p> The Virtual Academy Coordinator works with the Virtual Academy Teacher/s and with a group of students identified as highly/profoundly gifted (primarily Stages 3 and 4) to support them in learning with autonomy and in engaging with intellectual peers and expert mentors by: <br>• Taking a leading role in the provision of a stimulating and enriching learning environment <br>• Building and sharing the knowledge and pedagogy about gifted education <br>• Acknowledging and promoting the academic requirements of the gifted child <br>• Engaging and leading professional learning to provide innovative and advanced curricula beyond the scope of the regular classroom <br>• Being involved in a network of shared expertise in gifted education <br>• Identifying and responding to the social and emotional needs of students The Virtual Academy Coordinator utilises their understanding of the K-12 Gifted Education Policy and Procedures to: <br>• Manage the day-to-day organisation of the Virtual Academy <br>• Oversee the nomination process for students joining the academy each semester <br>• Provide professional learning to the Virtual Academy Educator/s <br>• Lead the planning and preparation of units of work <br>• Provide regular evaluation and reports to the CSO Gifted Education Committee. As a Virtual Academy Teacher, the Virtual Academy Coordinator: <br>• Develops units of work for highly/profoundly gifted students (Stages 3 and 4) and deliver in an online setting with opportunities for small group and/ or individual meetings. <br>• Monitors and tracks student progress. <br>• Networks and works with <br>• other Virtual Academy Educators; <br>• CSO Education Officer (Gifted Education); <br>• virtual academy students and their parents; <br>• class teachers, year co-ordinators and or subject co-ordinators; <br>• Gifted Education Mentors (GEM); <br>• experts in the field of study and mentors. We are seeking to appoint a highly effective, experienced and skilled teacher/coordinator with a demonstrated record of excellence as an innovative teacher practitioner/leader over the last five years and with an awareness of cross curricula units of work for gifted students using the conceptual framework. All employees are required to undergo a National Police Check, retain a valid NSW Working with Children Check and ensure compliance with our safeguarding policies, the Diocesan Safeguarding Commitment Statement and the Code’s of Conduct. </p> <h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <p> • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools <br>• Four-year trained teacher classification with at least five years successful teaching experience and accredited at proficient level. <br>• Ability to apply appropriate knowledge in order to plan and prepare contemporary and compliant teaching and learning programs across multiple subject areas to meet the diverse characteristics, needs and learning styles of gifted students; and encourage them to work towards attainment of their potential <br>• Demonstrated capacity as an effective, skilled classroom practitioner who routinely works independently and collaboratively to improve their own practice and the practice of colleagues. <br>• High level interpersonal skills with the capacity to develop and sustain constructive and respectful relationships within and beyond the community <br>• Demonstrated excellent organisation and communication and ICT skills. <br>• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes <br>• Professional learning in Gifted Education and The Virtual Academy <br>• Have completed, or agree to complete, Mini Certificate in Gifted Education (Mini COGE) or equivalent or postgraduate studies in gifted education <br>• Demonstrated ability to initiate and drive change and ensure a culture of continuous improvement <br>• Demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically; to exercise sound judgement <br>• An awareness of cross curricula units of work for gifted students using the conceptual framework <br>• Willingness to comply or compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead Policy. The applicant must provide evidence of the following: <br>• Qualifications as a four year trained teacher; <br>• Current NESA Accreditation; <br>• Current Paid Working with Children Check (WWCC)number; <br>• Completion of Anaphylaxis training. </p> <h3>Desirable Criteria:</h3> <p> • Experience supporting students working in an educational online environment <br>• Postgraduate qualifications in gifted education; <br>• Experience as a Gifted Education Mentor. </p> <h3>Renumeration:</h3> <p> Conditions and salary commensurate with the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle Catholic Schools Office Employees Enterprise Agreement 2019-2021.
