Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) comprises 38 Catholic schools with more then 19,000 students enrolled across the Illawarra, Macarthur, Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands regions.

<p dir="ltr">The Director of Schools invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced personnel for this full-time position with Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong (CEDoW) commencing 18 January 2021 until 17 January 2024. The initial appointment will be for a period of three years, after which a permanent teaching position will be negotiated within the system of schools.</p> <p dir="ltr">The role of Education Officer- Special Education (K-12) forms part of the work of the School Improvement Services Specialist Support (SI-SS) Team. This position has a particular focus on the diverse learning and associated social, emotional and behavioural needs of students K-12, in both the Macarthur and Illawarra regions of the Wollongong Diocese. The position is mainly focused on supporting students in secondary school settings, with some support required for students in primary school settings. The role will include observing students in classroom settings, working in collaboration with Principals, CatholicCare Counsellors, Special Education Coordinators, Diverse Learning Support Teachers (primary schools) and other members of the SI-SS Team, in developing personal plans to support the learning, development and wellbeing of students, as well as implementing, monitoring and evaluating these plans. The position also involves supporting schools and parents/carers with enrolments of students, and the transition of students into schools and other educational settings. Additional aspects of the role requires coaching schools in the implementation of Positive Behaviours for Learning (PB4L) and supporting schools in dealing with student school attendance concerns.</p> <p dir="ltr">ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA:</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr">A deep understanding of and a commitment to the mission and purpose of a Catholic school within the broader evangelising mission of the Catholic Church.</li> <li dir="ltr">An understanding of the Disability Standards for Education (2005) aligned to the Disability Discrimination Act (1992).</li> <li dir="ltr">An understanding of the principles of the CEDoW PB4L Framework and its link to learning.</li> <li dir="ltr">The ability to strategically implement system priorities, frameworks and policies.</li> <li dir="ltr">Experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating personal plans for students related to their learning, development and wellbeing.</li> <li dir="ltr">Successful experience in data use and analysis to bring about whole school improvement.</li> <li dir="ltr">The ability to support schools in the design and delivery of quality professional learning experiences for school staff.</li> <li dir="ltr">An understanding of and experience in developing reasonable adjustments to support the learning needs of students.</li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA:</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr">Experience as a middle leader or above in a school setting.</li> <li dir="ltr">An understanding of CEDoW Path to Life: A Framework for Pastoral Care and Wellbeing, Diverse Learning Policy and Pastoral Care Policy (<a href="www.dow.catholic.edu.au">www.dow.catholic.edu.au</a> under policies).</li> <li dir="ltr">The capacity to lead quality teaching practices, based on the Diocesan Learning and Teaching Framework (<a href="www.dow.catholic.edu.au">www.dow.catholic.edu.au</a> under policies), and to design and implement quality individual educational programs aligned to this framework.</li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">The following GENERAL CAPABILITIES are applicable to the role:</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr">Well developed interpersonal skills.&nbsp;</li> <li dir="ltr">Well developed oral and written communication skills.</li> <li dir="ltr">Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.</li> <li dir="ltr">A commitment to ongoing personal and professional learning formation and growth.</li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">QUALIFICATIONS</p> <ul> <li dir="ltr">Applicant must be accredited with NESA to teach in NSW.</li> <li dir="ltr">Evidence of formal study and/or experience in the area of Special Education and associated social, emotional and behavioural needs of students.</li> <li dir="ltr">Accredited to Level B in accordance with the To Work, Teach and Lead Policy, or a commitment to gain this level within the first 5 years of employment within CEDoW.</li> </ul> <p dir="ltr">WORKING WITH CHILDREN CLEARANCE</p> <p dir="ltr">This role is classified as child-related work and therefore a Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to your employment at CEDoW.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>The Catholic Education Office is an agency of the Catholic Church called to stewardship and service in support of the system of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Wollongong.
