St Bede’s High School, Chisholm is seeking a temporary part time (30 hours/week) Learning Support Assistant to join the school community commencing in Term 1, 2021. St Bede’s Catholic College, in the recently-established suburb of Chisholm, is a new co-educational Catholic secondary school that is part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The College opened in 2018 and will eventually cater for 1,100 students in Years 7 to 12. In 2021 the College will have approximately 540 Year 7-10 students, with the first Year 12 cohort to graduate in 2023. The key components that drive the development of the school are Courage, Knowledge, Community and Faith. These components align to the four domains of the College’s Strategic Plan – Catholic Formation and Mission, Learning and Teaching, Leadership, Wellbeing and Partnerships.

The Learning Support Assistant works in collaboration with the Learning Support Teachers to support students with additional needs, supporting the development of inclusive learning environments and providing assistance to teachers to meet the specific learning needs of students with additional needs. <br> <h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <br> • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and to actively supporting the Catholic ethos and culture of the school; <br>• High level of communication and interpersonal skills when relating to students and other teachers with the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and members of the wider community; <br>• Demonstrated experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder; <br>• Demonstrated experience working with students who exhibit challenging behaviours and ability to follow plans and procedures put in place for these students; <br>• Understanding of non-violent crisis intervention strategies for school students; <br>• Highly developed computer skills and an ability to use technology for education support; <br>• Demonstrated appropriate experience and/or Certificate III in Special Education; <br>• Demonstrated ability to contribute as a member of a team and assist in the planning, preparation and implementation of personalised plans and programs to enhance student support.
