Yirralka Education at Mäpuru is seeking a Primary/Middle School teacher who will uphold the college’s vision ‘self-determined lives of dignity on ancestral estates’. Mäpuru Yirralka College is a newly created independent school and is governed by the elders, custodians and families of Mäpuru who make up Yirralka Education.
<p>The Middle School teacher will be a general classroom teacher who is able to work in a teaching team with Yolngu co-teachers (assistant teachers) to develop students’ literacy and numeracy skills with real life adult tasks for real purposes. Mäpuru Yirralka College implements a bi-literacy and bi-cultural learning program.
</p><p>The 12 – 24 students in this class thrive in applied or practical learning contexts that build community and futures, therefore applicants with demonstrated experience in one or more areas of applied learning, the outdoors, environmental education or trade like skills are encouraged to apply. Students run their own small shop and work with their families to run two micro-tourism businesses, Arnhem Weavers and Men’s Business.
</p><p>The Middle School teacher will be responsible for the Secondary class (Years 7 -10) and will work as a teaching team member with Yolngu co-teachers (assistant teachers) to plan, prepare and implement programs. Teaching duties include ensuring continuity of the established class routines and pedagogies, developing and implementing teaching programs, assessing student learning and reporting to parents.
</p><p>You will be encouraged to develop programs that deeply embed students within their identity alongside developing understandings of the full range of AC subject areas including English, numeracy, science, health and skills to manage their futures.
