A &#39;living treasure&#39; surrounded by the beautiful St George Ranges, the school has approximately 20 students and is committed to strengthening local infrastructure, culture and lifestyle. </p><p> </p><p>The school places high importance and investment in activities that stimulate the well-being and morale of students and staff within the community. Governed by Kadjina Community Incorporated, their aim is to ensure that learning is a central activity for all, challenging students to recognise and reach their full potential. There is a focus on teaching Standard Australian English literacy and numeracy while recognising the students&#39; status as speakers of other languages. </p><p> </p><p><b>Are you ready for your next big adventure? </b></p><p><i>Wulungarra Community School</i> now has an opportunity for an experienced <b>Secondary Teacher </b>to join their team on a full-time basis, commencing at the start of the school year in January 2021. </p><p> </p><p>Reporting to the Principal on all curriculum matters, you will<b> teach a mixed level class</b> ranging from grades 5-9 across a range of subjects with a special focus on arts and music. </p><p> </p><p>Your daily duties will include, but not be limited to: </p><p> </p><p>Preparing daily lessons and long-term teaching programs in accordance with syllabuses and work programmes; </p><p>Using a range of teaching methods, including formal lessons, discussions, practical activities, projects and excursions, according to the needs of each student; </p><p>Evaluating and reporting on the progress of their students, discussing individual performance and problems with students and parents; </p><p>Promoting positive behaviour choices, good working habits and discipline in classrooms and throughout the school; and </p><p>Participating in other activities in partnership with parents and the school community, including parent/teacher afternoons, committee meetings and any other designated event, as required. </p><p><b>What You Will Need to Succeed </b></p><p><b>To be successful in this position you will hold relevant teaching qualifications and have (or be eligible to obtain) full registration with the Teacher Registration Board of WA. </b></p><p> </p><p>Ideally, you will have a few years of teaching experience, however confident graduates are welcome to apply. Importantly, you will have a strong background and/or interest in art and music with an enthusiastic willingness to apply this in the classroom. </p><p> </p><p><b>Previous experience living or working within a remote Indigenous community would be beneficial, however is not essential provided you have a high level of cultural awareness and an understanding of the unique challenges of working in a remote area. </b></p><p> </p><p><i>Wulungarra Community School</i> is seeking a secondary teacher who is also comfortable teaching primary aged students in mixed level classrooms. It is approximately 2 hours drive from Fitzroy Crossing and 5 hours drive from Broome, sitting on the edge of the Great Sandy Desert and surrounded by the Saint George Ranges. </p><p> </p><p>The Kadjina community is very remote with limited facilities. It is accessible via 4WD for the majority of the year, however access may be restricted to light planes during the wet season. The Royal Flying Doctors Service provides visits to the community on a monthly circuit. </p><p> </p><p>A combination of Walmajarri, Kriol and English is spoken in the community, with children speaking English to varying degrees as their second or third language. Elders describe Kadjina as a strong community and a great means of continuing traditional culture. The population is small and welcomes those who have a genuine passion about making a difference whilst also learning from the community.</p>
