<p>(Permanent, Full-time)</p><p>Wenona seeks to appoint an outstanding Head of Finance to join our thriving day and boarding School, which has remained at the forefront of girls’ education since its establishment in 1886.<br /></p><p>This role is a senior position at the School, and accordingly we are seeking a Head of Finance who possesses a systems improvement mindset, has exceptional analytical and financial modelling skills, a professional demeanour, outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead the development of reflective and innovative practices across the Business Office.<br /></p><p>Wenona values Professional Service staff who demonstrate a positive and proactive approach to their work and have a willingness to participate fully in the life of the School. We look for enthusiastic, dedicated and capable staff who demonstrate initiative, good humour, and professional behaviour and support the values and aims of the School as a global learning community.<br /></p><h4>Areas of Responsibility</h4><p><u>Team leadership:</u><br /></p><ul><li>Leadership and motivational management of Business office staff; including oversight of payables, receivables, general ledger, payroll, asset management, uniform shop, recurrent/capital budgets and related entity transactions.<br /></li><li>Facilitate and support the professional development of finance staff.</li></ul><p><u>Financial reporting:</u><br /></p><ul><li>Overseeing the team’s accurate &amp; timely completion of month end financial management reports.<br /></li><li>Detailed oversight of payroll and Enterprise Agreement interpretation.</li><li>Preparing working papers, reconciliations and year-end adjustments in preparation for annual financial report &amp; Audit.</li><li>Liaising with external auditors throughout the planning &amp; conduct of annual audit of financial statements &amp; other external financial reviews.</li><li>Managing all tax compliance requirements including FBT, GST (including lodgement of BAS) &amp; PAYG.</li><li>Preparing school compliance requirements including reports &amp; acquittals to government authorities.</li><li>Preparing annual budgets and long-term financial projections in conjunction with Business Manager.</li><li>Monitoring cash flow and short-term investments and preparing monthly cash flow.</li><li>Overseeing the maintenance of fully reconciled assets register including regular asset verification processes.</li><li>Developing and monitoring internal controls pertaining to financial management within the School.</li></ul><p><u>Project management:</u><br /></p><ul><li>Drive improvements in the management and maintenance of financial and reporting systems.<br /></li><li>Lead improvements that enhance the functionality of the finance systems to meet the business needs, financial objectives and statutory reporting requirements - including but not limited to: automation of financial reporting, digitisation and streamlined procurement process and enhancing payroll processes.</li><li>Provide support to key decision makers and be the interface between the business and financial systems.</li><li>Business modelling development in conjunction with Business Manager.</li></ul><h4>Education and Experience</h4><ul><li>In addition to demonstrating the ability to fulfil the requirements of this role, it is anticipated that applicants will be able to demonstrate:<br /></li><li>A minimum of five years’ experience at a senior business management level. Experience with independent schools or similar is highly desirable.<br /></li><li>Demonstrated experience in successfully facilitating, through self and others, continuous improvement and business automation of financial and business systems, processes, procedures, reporting and enhancing the end user experience.</li><li>Demonstrated experience as an engaging, credible &amp; motivational team leader.</li><li>Highly developed oral and written communication skills with the ability to listen to and understand the needs of multiple stakeholders.</li><li>Willingness and capacity to learn and grow competence in the broader aspects of this diverse role, including further formation and professional development.</li><li>Tertiary qualifications - CA or CPA essential.</li><li>Valid Working with Children Check clearance.</li></ul><h4>Personal attributes</h4><ul><li>Analytical capability and ability to apply strategic thinking to financial reporting and analysis.</li><li>Strong business and management report writing skills.</li><li>Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise and manage workload, meet deadlines and adapt to changing circumstances.</li><li>Ability to identify issues and propose solutions.</li><li>Lead by example &amp; encourage teamwork and collaboration.</li><li>Ability to professionally &amp; confidently interact with multiple stake holders and build strong, trusting business relationships.</li><li>Reviewing and evaluating relevant policies for compliance and registration.</li></ul><h4>General conditions of the role</h4><ul><li><u>Award:</u> Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2017.</li><li><u>Classification &amp; pay</u>: Classification will be based on role requirements. Salary will be discussed at interview and will consider both the role and the candidate’s experience.</li><li><u>Hours of work:</u> Permanent, Full-time. The School’s office hours are 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Given the seniority of this role, the expectation is that the Head of Finance will work the hours required to fulfil the requirements of the position and be flexible in responding to additional needs, including out-of-hours meetings.</li><li><u>School Holidays</u>: Annual leave should only be taken during the student holiday period.
