St Bede’s High School, Chisholm is seeking a Full-time Permanent Assistant Principal commencing in 2021. St Bede’s Catholic College, in the recently-established suburb of Chisholm, is a new co-educational Catholic secondary school that is part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle. The College opened in 2018 and will eventually cater for 1,100 students in Years 7 to 12. In 2021 the College will have approximately 540 Year 7-10 students, with the first Year 12 cohort to graduate in 2023.

The Assistant Principal is a key member of the leadership team of a Catholic school. The Assistant Principal exercises a unique professional relationship of support and loyalty to the leadership of the Principal and may deputise in the absence of the Principal. The Assistant Principal contributes to the collaborative decision-making processes and assists the Principal in the planning, implementation and evaluation of school goals and in the transformation of the school culture into a results-oriented professional learning community. The Assistant Principal will work collaboratively and closely with the existing Assistant Principal. The core accountabilities of this leadership position are student wellbeing, learning and teaching and sharing in building and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement. <br>• A relevant understanding of the philosophy of Catholic Education; <br>• Ability to teach in the relevant curriculum area/s; <br>• High level knowledge of the relevant key learning area/s and a proven capacity to improve student learning; <br>• Effective classroom management and teaching skills which enable students with a diverse range of needs to achieve their full potential; <br>• Exemplary values and attitudes appropriate to professional practice and the intellectual, physical and social development of students; <br>• Ability to successfully implement and evaluate curriculum initiatives in accordance with curriculum and standards framework; <br>• Demonstrated capacity to reflect critically upon professional practice and commitment to ongoing professional learning; <br>• Commitment and capacity to actively contribute to a broad range of school activities as a member of the school team; <br>• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and other teachers; <br>• Use of interpersonal skills to develop positive relationships with students, school staff and the wider community; <br> <h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <br> • Practising Catholic with current parish priest reference; <br>• Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic Education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools; <br>• The applicant has completed or will complete (within four years of appointment) a postgraduate qualification in Religious Education or Theological Studies; <br>• The applicant should qualifications as a four-year trained teacher and at least six, preferably eight years, successful teaching experience; <br>• A strong background in and command of a core content area in education with the ability to model and share current research and encourage evidence based practice; <br>• Demonstrated success in creating and leading effective professional learning; <br>• Demonstrated ability to initiate and drive change and ensure a culture of continuous improvement; <br>• A demonstrated capacity to think and act strategically; to exercise sound judgement; and to support the Principal in leading the mission of the school; <br>• High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to develop and sustain constructive and respectful relationships within and beyond the school community; <br>• Demonstrated ability to effectively utilise data to optimise organisational and educational outcomes; <br>• Capacity to strengthen and integrate equity and diversity, work health and safety and performance management principles in the ongoing management and development of staff; <br>• Current NESA Accreditation and Paid Working With Children Check (WWCC); <br>• Completion of Anaphylaxis training; <br>• Willingness to Comply or Compliance with the CSO Accreditation to Work, Teach and Lead 2018 and willingness to work towards the Current Accreditation at Category E – Accreditation for Senior Leadership. <br> <h3>Desirable Criteria:</h3> <br> • Postgraduate qualifications in Educational Leadership; <br>• Proven ability to be a leader in the management of Student Wellbeing in a Year 7 to 12 High school; <br>• Teaching experience in Stage 6. <br> <h3>Renumeration:</h3> <br> Salary is in accordance with New South Wales &amp; Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2017. <br> <h3>Additional Info:</h3> <br> To apply: Please provide your resume and a cover letter addressing the position requirements and criteria directly to the Talent Acquisition Team – Talent@mn.catholic.org.au Applicants should nominate at least three (3) referees, one of whom must be a parish priest and two other persons one of whom must be the person's current principal and/or area supervisor or consultant.
