<h4>Aboriginal Education Worker <br />Permanent Full Time - School Term only <br />Close Date: Friday 27th March, 2020 </h4><p> </p><p><b>About the role </b></p><p>A great opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Education Worker to join the team at Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham. The Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander program is focused on providing educational and pastoral care support to Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students based on the ‘Closing the Gap’ targets of Attendance, Numeracy/ Literacy, Parent and Community Engagement and Retention. </p><p> Your key role is to provide culturally safe support for Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students based on a relationship of trust and respect. We will be asking you to draw on your cultural strengths to provide a safe place for all students to experience success, express their needs, concerns and goals as they progress through their education. <br /><br /></p><p> </p><p><b>About Christian Brothers’ High School, Lewisham </b></p><p>At Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham we focus on the boy to “grow the man”. We aim to develop young men of integrity and compassion who will become valued members of their community.<br /><br /></p><p><b>About you </b></p><ul><li>To perform this role it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.</li><li>Previous experience working with Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander youth</li><li>Knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander youth in an urban context</li><li>Able to deal with sensitive and complex issues in a culturally appropriate way</li><li>Demonstrated skills in cross-cultural communication specifically active listening</li><li>Able to work within the framework of a Catholic school</li><li>Current Working with Children Check</li><li>Current NSW Driver’s License </li></ul><p><br /></p><p> </p><p><b>To apply: </b></p><p>If you are looking to join a small committed team making a powerful difference we would love to hear from you.
