<h4>Aboriginal Education Worker <br />Permanent Full Time - School Term only <br />Close Date: Friday 27th March, 2020 </h4><p> </p><p><b>About the role </b></p><p>A great opportunity exists for an Aboriginal Education Worker to join the team at Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham. The Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander program is focused on providing educational and pastoral care support to Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students based on the ‘Closing the Gap’ targets of Attendance, Numeracy/ Literacy, Parent and Community Engagement and Retention. </p><p> Your key role is to provide culturally safe support for Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander students based on a relationship of trust and respect. We will be asking you to draw on your cultural strengths to provide a safe place for all students to experience success, express their needs, concerns and goals as they progress through their education. <br /><br /></p><p> </p><p><b>About Christian Brothers’ High School, Lewisham </b></p><p>At Christian Brothers’ High School Lewisham we focus on the boy to “grow the man”. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 that applicants are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.</li><li>Previous experience working with Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander youth</li><li>Knowledge and understanding of issues facing Aboriginal &amp; Torres Strait Islander youth in an urban context</li><li>Able to deal with sensitive and complex issues in a culturally appropriate way</li><li>Demonstrated skills in cross-cultural communication specifically active listening</li><li>Able to work within the framework of a Catholic school</li><li>Current Working with Children Check</li><li>Current NSW Driver’s License </li></ul><p><br /></p><p> </p><p><b>To apply: </b></p><p>If you are looking to join a small committed team making a powerful difference we would love to hear from you.
