The Religious Studies Coordinator – known as a Leader of Learning at St Joseph’s College, has specific responsibility for the leadership and of the school’s Religious Studies and Studies of Religion programmes from Year 7-12 and significantly contributes to the promotion of the religious dimension of the Catholic school. The Leader of Religious Studies is a member of the College Leadership Team, which comprises the Principal, Assistant Principal(s) and other Leaders of Learning. As a member of the Leadership Team the Leader of Learning will offer assistance and support in the: • Day to day operation of the school • Promotion of the Catholic ethos of the school • Promotion of the Josephite Charism of the College • Leadership relating to the Religious Education programme • Actively supporting the Leader of Ministry in nurturing the spiritual life of the College Community • Initiation of and contribution to quality teaching and learning programs • Promotion of an effective pastoral care / wellbeing program • Implementation of the school’s policies and procedures • Promotion of the hospitality, accessibility and visibility of the Leadership Team St Joseph’s College Lochinvar, founded in 1883 by the Sisters of St Joseph offers a Catholic co-education for students from Years 7-12 St Joseph’s College, is situated 10 minutes west of Maitland and 40 minutes from Newcastle via the Hunter Expressway.

A Leader of Religious Studies must be able to demonstrate: <br>• An understanding of and a clear commitment to the philosophy and objectives of Catholic education, as expressed in a variety of Church documents, and as related to the specific curriculum area. <br>• The capacity to effectively integrate Catholic ethos into faculty policies and programme. <br>• Thorough knowledge of relevant syllabi. <br>• High level of proficiency as a classroom teacher. <br>• Sound understanding of pedagogy and the changing nature of learners. <br>• Commitment to ongoing professional learning. <br>• The capacity to lead teachers in the implementation of the Religion &amp; Studies of Religion syllabi, including a focus on catering for the diverse learning needs of students. <br>• The capacity to lead and manage a faculty, including the active supervision and evaluation of teaching programs, assessment data, registers and resources. <br>• The capacity to work with staff to set personal and faculty goals linked to the College goals. <br>• The ability to implement and monitor assessment and reporting programmes which incorporate a standards referenced approach and use data to improve outcomes. <br>• An understanding of NESA cross curriculum priorities and how these can be addressed in teaching programs. <br>• The capacity and willingness to lead staff in professional learning and nourish professional learning communities. <br>• High level proficiency in the use of technology as a teaching and organisational tool. <br>• The ability to support staff in adopting a range of strategies in order to provide high quality ongoing pastoral care of students. <br>• The capacity and commitment to contribute to, and work collaboratively with, the College Leadership Team. <br>• High level interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. The ideal applicant for the Leader of Religious Studies position will be a practising Catholic with graduate qualifications in religious studies and a capacity for significant leadership in the religious dimension and liturgical life of the school community. Liaison with the Leader of Ministry and Leaders of Learning is important in these latter two areas. <br> <h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <br> • Must be able to fulfill the requirements of the Diocesan Faith Education Accreditation Policy. <br>• Applicants will need to comply with the Accreditation to Work Teach and Lead - formerly the Faith Education Accreditation (FEA) Policy 2012 and will need to work towards Accreditation at Category D – Accreditation to Teach Religion. <br>• Be appropriately qualified as a four year trained primary teacher <br>• Be a practising Catholic. <br>• Record current NESA and Working With Children number on application. <br>• Evidence of completion of Anaphylaxis training certificate must be supplied.
