A career opportunity as a Primary Head of Year is available for commencement in 2020. The Head of Year reports to the Head of Primary and works collaboratively with him and the rest of the primary staff teams to ensure that initiatives in relation to individual student progress are monitored and implemented smoothly. They also work collaboratively with the Primary Dean of Studies, Head of Early Childhood, Heads of Department, Co-ordinators, specialist and classroom teachers to develop and implement policies which support the mission of the School and have the responsibility for curriculum across all Key Learning Areas, pastoral care, student welfare and behaviour for their specific Year level.

<p><b>Time Allocation: </b><br /></p><p><b></b></p><p>Five periods of a 10 day teaching cycle, as per the POL Staff Work Practices Policy. </p><p><b> </b></p><p><b>Essential Criteria: </b></p><p>• Qualified practising teacher with a high level relevant qualification in the subject area(s). </p><p>• Demonstrates well-developed leadership, people management and supervisory skills gained from experience in a leadership role in a school environment. </p><p>• Has extensive experience as an outstanding teacher with a passion for education .</p><p>• Demonstrates high-level organisational and administrative skills and an ability to lead and coordinate projects and services for staff and students .</p><p>• Behaves ethically, reflects positivity, demonstrates a growth mindset and contributes to the school’s ethos and community life .</p><p><br /></p><p><b>Responsibilities:</b></p><p><i> (Please see attached role statement for full role description)</i></p><p>In addition to classroom teaching, responsibilities include: </p><p><i>Team</i> </p><p>1. Managing/Lead the teaching and learning within the year level. </p><p>2. Promoting and fostering team work and collaboration. <br /></p><p>3. Facilitating the organisation of Year Level responsibilities to ensure that programming and planning, well-being and other administrative tasks such as excursions, camps, newsletters, maintenance of the OLP etc. are shared amongst the team. <br /></p><p> 4. Supporting the Line of Communication (as per staff handbook).  </p><p>5. Liaising with Head of Primary in relation to Budget and Purchasing. <br /></p><p>6. Facilitating Year Level meetings. <br /></p><p><i>Curriculum</i> <br /></p><p>1. Overseeing the One Note Planning tool to ensure consistency and uniformity across the year level in line with the school agreed structure. </p><p>2. Monitoring the educational needs of students in your Year Level. <br /></p><p>3. Supporting Specialist Teachers.<br /></p><p>4. Assisting the Dean of Studies Primary with management of subject specific competitions and online subscriptions - NAPLAN, ICAS, Australian Mathematics Competition, Mathletics, Soundwaves, Literacy Planet, Phonics Hero. <br /></p><p>5. In line with the Needs Analysis identify an area of interest and liaise with Dean of Studies Primary, Head of Primary, and Head of Early Childhood in regards to leadership and implementation. </p><p><i> Well-Being </i></p><p>1. Supporting members of your team, as required with student / parent issues. </p><p>2. Assising with behaviour management as required. <br /></p><p>3. Supporting and helping implement well–being projects. </p><p><i>General Responsibilities:</i> </p><p>• Attendance at Primary Leaders meetings .</p><p>• Report editing and completion .</p><p>• Resource management such as text acquisition, stationery distribution etc. </p><p>• Management of subject specific competitions e.g. UNSW (further delegation to teaching staff recommended) .</p><p>• Student behaviour management. </p><p>• Testing, competitions and assessment for student performance data collection. </p><p>• Creation of approved class lists for timetable requirements. </p><p>• KLA subject programming, records, assessment, registration and evaluation, and budgeting. </p><p>• Maintaining parent communications. </p><p>• Support new staff induction .</p><p>• Classroom facility management .</p><p>• Any other duties as required by the Head of School.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><b> </b></p><p><b><br /></b></p><p><b> </b></p><p><b> </b></p><p><b><br /></b></p><p> </p><p><br /></p>
