Our schools aim to offer young people who have become disengaged from education an opportunity to achieve either the Record of School Achievement, Higher School Certificate or the skills they require to go on to further vocational education, apprenticeships and/or employment. We work to reignite a passion for learning by structuring the curriculum so that students may best progress on their path to their own goals. </p><p> A majority of our success is based on the view that student oriented learning can take place in settings outside of the classroom. We endeavour to meet curriculum outcomes in an integrated program within the community. </p><p><b>The Role: </b></p><p> Step Up is a Year 11 and 12 program offered at Chapel School, Merrylands Campus. The program provides students with the opportunity to complete their preliminary course and / or Higher School Certificate in a positive learning environment. </p><p> The opportunity has arisen for a qualified TAS and Construction Pathways Teacher within the Step Up program. The successful candidate will have sound experience in teaching and working with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds, those who may have issues with family, alcohol and other drugs, juvenile justice, challenging behaviour and/or childhood trauma.</p><p><b>Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: </b></p><ul><li> Prepare all programs for each class in a manner that will satisfy all NESA requirements </li><li>Maintain and enhance knowledge base through professional readings and onsite training to teach children with learning difficulties, behaviour disorders and or emotional difficulties </li><li>Commitment to ongoing professional development </li><li>Give notice to students of all assessment tasks, what is required and the due date </li><li>Maintain class notebooks for all students in your classroom </li><li>Maintain a Day Book/Teachers Chronicle and record all lessons taught, student attendance, assessment results, and evaluations </li><li>Actively participate in extra curricula activities with other Youth Off The Streets Schools </li><li>Other duties as required by the Principal/Deputy Principal/School Manager </li><li>Perform other duties that provide Youth opportunities to promote the YOTS values</li></ul><p><b>Essential requirements: </b></p><ul><li> Current NESA registration and tertiary qualification in Education, TAS and Construction Pathways. </li><li>Current Driver’s Licence, WWCC, First Aid Certificate and Australian Working Rights </li><li>Capacity to initiate and motivate improvement in high school with disengaged youth </li><li>Capacity to creatively engage Aboriginal youth in Learning </li><li>Record of successful teaching, curriculum implementation and organisational skills </li><li>Expertise in student welfare and ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, colleagues and the community </li><li>Proven ability to monitor, evaluate and adapt programs to meet identified outcomes </li><li>Capacity to integrate technology effectively into the classroom, especially with literacy and numeracy </li><li>Current, active experience in a variety of sports, activities, camps &amp; excursions </li><li>Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the principles that underpin a child safe organisation including mandatory child protection procedures </li><li>Demonstrated capacity to respect and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people of diverse cultural backgrounds</li></ul><p><b>Desirable requirements: </b></p><ul><li> Experience in special education setting </li><li>Current Certificate IV Training and Assessment </li><li>Expertise and understanding of school based apprenticeships and traineeships, Vocational Education and Training (VET) and externally delivered VET credentialing of students. </li><li>Additional skills in creative arts, sport, camps and excursions or other extra curricula activities is an advantage</li></ul><p><b>The Person: </b></p><p> The successful candidate will possess a proven track record in an educational setting and be able to develop the confidence of staff and other stakeholders at Youth Off The Streets through consistent action, values and communication. You will be a team player and have the confidence to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
