We look for enthusiastic, dedicated and capable staff who demonstrate initiative, good humour, and professional behaviour and support the values and aims of the School as a global learning community. </p><h4>Overview of the Visual Arts Assistant role</h4><p>This position has primary responsibility for ensuring that the day to day operations and strategic goals of the School are being met.</p><p>The role of Visual Arts Assistant supports the creative team of academic staff by ensuring the functional capacities of the learning environments within the Visual Arts Department at Wenona are maintained.</p><p>It achieves this by proactive and well executed administrative, operational and logistical support to the Visual Arts Department. This role focuses on assisting and supporting the staff to ensure all materials, spaces, procedures, preparation and displays are co-ordinated in a timely and appropriate manner. </p><p>The position also presents an important impression of the School and the values that it represents. Professionalism, confidence, presentation and a calm, positive attitude under pressure must be maintained as well as the ability to maintain high levels of discretion and confidentiality in all circumstances.</p><p>The position also contributes to the maintenance of a positive internal culture where service, integrity, kindness and humour are valued.</p><h4>Key priorities</h4><ul><li>Support teachers in the operational procedures relating to the ordering and maintaining of Art materials, including monitoring and maintaining storage spaces.</li><li>Under the direction of the Head of Department or delegate, prepare and maintain teaching spaces for lessons including routine setting up and dismantling of items of equipment for use in experimental, observational and teaching activities.</li><li>Undertake a range of general administration tasks for example preparation of worksheets, word processing, photocopying, petty cash, time-sheets, preparing for events and other similar tasks.</li><li>Coordinate logistics regarding visiting artists and guest speakers including the coordination of variation to routine documentation.</li><li>Create and maintain accurate safety (MSDS) records relating to safe use of materials and chemicals and ensure the School, the Visual Arts Departments and the students are aware of and adhere to WHS requirements.</li><li>Record, maintain and store the students exemplars, including School and NESA examination requirements, the tracking and return of past HSC artworks.</li><li>Hanging and exhibition duties in regards to the Judith Day Gallery and any other exhibitions held in the Independent Theatre or elsewhere within the School.</li><li>Assist the Visual Arts Departments within well established routines, methods and procedures, which may include -</li><li>In collaboration with the Heads of Department, monitor supplies and carry out stock take as needed</li><li>Unpack, check and store orders</li><li>Maintenance and cleaning of equipment – paints, brushes, paper, pencils, crayons, cameras etc.</li><li>Prepare art equipment, for example assemble canvas and frames, roll clay, prepare glaze etc.</li><li>Assist to stack, fire and unstack ceramic pieces from the electric kiln</li><li>Assist in the preparation and presentation of photography and Visual Arts related activities</li><li>Cataloguing of books and resources</li></ul><h4>Education and Experience</h4><ul><li>Qualifications in Educational Support, Business Administration, Art or similar</li><li>3 years relevant experience in an educational or arts environment with a strong interest in the arts</li><li>NSW Working with Children Check</li><li>Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Photoshop and other similar programs, as well as the ability to learn new systems.</li></ul><h4>Personal Attributes</h4><ul><li>Displays high level of accuracy and attention to detail with strong service orientation, integrity, ownership of work</li><li>High level of communication skills; be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities, especially teaching staff and students.</li><li>Ability to organise and prioritise own work activities and schedules to meet established deadlines and to achieve high quality work outcomes.</li><li>Ability to push and lift up to 25 kilograms and stand for extended periods of time</li></ul><h4>General conditions of the role</h4><p><b>Award</b></p><p>Independent Schools NSW (Support and Operational Staff) Multi Enterprise Agreement 2015 – 2017<br /></p><p><b>Classification</b><br /></p><p>School Assistant<br /></p><p><b>Hours of work</b><br /></p><p>Permanent Part Time, 25.5 hrs per week. Daily hours will generally be 8 until 4 pm (including 30 mins unpaid lunch break).</p><p><b>School Holidays</b><br /></p><p>Annual leave should only be taken during the student holiday period.  The School has mandatory closure between 21 December 2016 and 04 January 2017 (10 days) and you will be expected to take this time as annual leave<br /></p><p><b>Reporting Line</b><br /></p><p>All positions report to the Principal.
