The Aboriginal Education Teacher’s role primarily focuses on mentoring of students, working with the current Aboriginal Education Teacher to liaise with families and the broader Aboriginal Community, promoting Aboriginal perspectives in the College, contributing to individual learning plans to improve Aboriginal students’ social development, wellbeing and learning and to monitor attendance and academic growth. The position also requires a capacity to work collaboratively with all staff, especially the Leaders of Wellbeing and Teaching and Learning, and to meet regularly with members of the College Leadership Team. This position maybe extended beyond the Finishing date.

<p>The Aboriginal Education teacher should be able to demonstrate: <br>• a relevant understanding of and a clear commitment to the philosophy and objectives of Catholic education <br>• ability to engage in mentoring of Aboriginal students <br>• commitment to fostering regular school attendance of Aboriginal students through providing appropriate support to the students and their families <br>• an understanding of Aboriginal perspectives and capacity to assist teachers in integrating these perspectives in their programs of study <br>• experience in promoting and organising cultural activities throughout the year e.g. NAIDOC Week Celebrations <br>• the capacity to support the planning and implementation of literacy and numeracy programs targeted at improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal students <br>• the ability to negotiate and implement Individual Education Plans for Aboriginal Students <br>• capacity to support Stage 6 students especially in relation to NESA requirements and University pathways <br>• the capacity and willingness to explore post school options for Aboriginal students <br>• the ability to work as a member of a team <br>• sound interpersonal, organisational and communication skills </p><p><br> </p><h3>Essential Criteria:</h3> <br> This is an Aboriginal targeted position. (Being Aboriginal or Torres Strait islander is a genuine occupational qualification for this position as described under section 14 (d) of the NSW Anti-discrimination Act, 1977) <br>• be appropriately qualified as a four year trained teacher <br>• be able to continue to build relationships between the school and parents of Aboriginal students <br>• be able to support and attend Aboriginal Immersions, Ceremonies and Professional Development Events <br>• be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and contemporary educational issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and have established links with their local Aboriginal community.
